EOMA68-A20 needs a nickname

EOMA68-A20 CPU Card is difficult to pronounce and remember. It needs a short cute nickname. For example, cubieboard, cubieboard2 and cubieboard truck all have a short easy to pronounce and remember name "cubie." Apple includes "i" in the name of their products. Beaglebone Black and the other Beagle boards have the cute name "Beagle" in their boards. I recommend Rhombus-Tech to request manufacturers of future products containing the EOMA68 card to include its nickname in the brand name of the product. thereby, consumers would know that EOMA68 is inside. For example, "Improv nickname board." Rhombus-tech's EOMA68 is too obscure. Forums of ARM boards don't discuss EOMA68. There is little publicity. Including the nickname in future products would give publicity to both the product and the EOMA card. Hi, Anyone got VOIP working? Twinkle is not in the Ubuntu 13.04 arm repository :( High priority I think - saves guys and dolls a lot of money if their EOMA is able to double up as VOIP terminal with a plugin generic USB sound module.

Progress on Mer/KDE image

Hi all, since some people expressed the interest to try the current status of the mer/kde image, I uploaded it here: http://makeplaylive.com/~notmart/plasma-active-armv7hl-sunxi-eoma68-improv-… it needs an eoma68 A20 configured to boot from microsd. it boots to console, and kde can be started with init 5 desktop effects should work out of the box. Upcoming CPU Card Status?

Hi. Deciding weather to put a order in for a a20+devboard or too wait. I prefer the specs of the upcoming cpu cards. I need all the ram I can get preferably but I also would like 3D/GPU for gnome-shell providing there's free drivers and firmware other wise I'd compromise for the most free cpu card. So rough err ETA of the up coming cpu cards and I assume that very nice devboard from make-play-live will be possible to get without the a20 card in 2014? Thanks muchly.

http://rhombus-tech.net/community_ideas/mini_desktop/news/Revision_1_routin… started this a week or so ago, it's been very rapid to complete because all the parts have been available from the other two products. it started as a copy of the flying squirrel; the audio section has been completely left as-is, and it turned rapidly into a desktop through the addition of the VGA and power circuits from the router. so that's three major I/O board products in the pipeline. anyone got any suggestions on what to do next? laptop PCB? small robotics system? l.

chris, joe, aaron, could i possibly ask you if you could put down some very brief info on these three products? i'lll maintain the structure, etc. for now, the wiki is being used in lieu of a database (TBD), and, crucially, it will be the point where EOMA68 IDs will be recorded until we've a proper registry set up. we'll be working on that shortly but i still want a single central place where feature boards (I/O boards) are registered and tracked. thanks, l.

Realtek RTD2660 dithered LCD driver HDMI monitor

Hi, Just trying to expand the EOMA ecosystem. I've got Realtek RTD2660 dithered LCD driver I bought with 800x480 7" display. It converts a 1024p HDMI signal to 800x480 and dithers the pixels to give impression of very high definition. (The illusion is a challenge for small characters that need to be displayed.) It works well for graphical OS like Ubuntu running on the EOMA. Just wondering if anyone know of SDKs and all the developer bits needed to get RTD2660 board built for EOMA. (I believe Raspi developers are thinking of making such a device already and have a kickstarter like campaign going.) So effectively the project is to build a miniature open source HDMI monitor for EOMA all done up in glorious KiCAD. When I get access to a 3D printer, a 100% open sourced case design is likely a done deal. The chip cost <$2, and LCD about $14. Add in all the components, and you could make decent micro HDMI monitors with BOM of about $20. Anyone out there wanting to cooperate on this one? I can do all the layout and LCDs to get the thing going from a hardware point of view. I can buy a programmer to program the RTD2660 chip. What I don't have is the SDK to customize the chip. But obviously need some kind of SDK to make the firmware files. I don't particularly know what to get it, or if there are are open source projects out there that can generate the firmware and/or program the RTD2660 chip Any pointers greatly appreciated.

I'm busy making a Cubieboard2 test jig to put the LCD on so I can wire up the resistive panel to the A20 CPU and get that going. By then I will also be able to cross check which wire(s) are not correct. (If you are building LCD or video projects around EOMA, check the wiring for red/blue are OK first.)

OK, so I got an MEBv2 eventually a week or so ago, and with some help from phil hands at the mini-debconf last week proved my card would boot, then we built suitable uboot, and tools and have just faffed about soldering serial header, serial cable, power cable up and sorting out level shifters, but now I can boot and get serial. Woo! Now I just need to sort out rootfs and kernel, solder on IO header, suitable sata connector and I can work on something useful like debian installer support. HDMI variant low profile ethernet socket

Hi, Luke/Aaron, you need to get some shoes on and go make a mini HDMI connector that is a little bit smaller (so as to prevent it being used as a video connector) and use it as ethernet connector. Notice all the tablets out there don't have physical ethernet? For lack of a decent substitute ethernet connector that is thin enough to go on a tablet. It could be designed so that future EOMAs could have it and so too should the Plasma Active tablets. And thin stacks of future server boards. You guys need to use your industrial contacts and muscle and go pull some strings to make it happen. The alternative is I go make it in mini-HDMI size and just make cable adapter (which will lead to confusion). I'm sure my adventure will end in tears and a sorry mess but it be better than nothing. HDMI has at least 4 tx/rx pairs and a lot more - just use the tx/rx pairs only and its good enough to get gigabit ethernet. The ethernet magnetics chip is very small these days costing under $1, so the overall solution could fit inside an EOMA. There is some standard out there milling around to support ethernet through HDMI, but I don't fancy that as a better solution than a low profile dedicated ethernet connector long overdue for the tablet market to replace the bulky RJ connector.

That's.... a hell of a lot. anyone any experience at dealing with that much power on small boards (4 amp @ 5V) ? l.

Dear OEMA68 developer community . We are a team of Spanish engineers who are developing a Home Cinema -Media Center to integrate XBMC on Linux on a modular concept . We thought we had EOMA68 use platform for our project. But note that not included SPDIF output included in the CPU to one of the GPIO outputs as expecificacion see that the original is not contemplated. We think that in a Media Center is mandatory to have a SPDIF connection because sometimes only play music and it is interesting to connect the audio DAC you have, no need to convert from HDMI . My question is .. The EOMA68 espeficicaciones the A- 20 are closed or else you could ask implement this output to a GPIO ?? - In event of failure to implement GPIO , I noticed that the photos of the first prototype boards last is eliminated auxiliary bus had on top . It would be possible to go back on the design some kind of signal SPDIF auxiliary bus and maybe some other CPU signal discarded but interesting in specific applications .??? Two Questions: MEB/Card/Case and VGA Proto

(1) *approximately* how much would it cost me to get an MEB, a current CPU Card (I assume that'd be A10 based?) and a case, almost-ready-to-go (as in, assemble the case, stick in the card, and drop on an OS), including shipping...? I'm in NC, US -- ZIP+4 for me is 27344-6644. (...or are we not quite there yet? I'm a little confused on that one.) To be super de doober clear -- estimate, not quote :P (2a) how realistic is the idea of putting together a prototype of the VGA adapter I came up with using perfboard? (I can't afford custom PCBs, and I can only do thru-hole soldering... I'll be socketing everything if I can work out the wiring for it!) What limitations should I expect, resolution-wise? (2b) alternatively, I have an eBay issue HDMI-to-VGA-and-Audio adapter, one of the ones that pulls power from the HDMI port. (It works, I've tested it.) Would that work with the MEB+CPU Card as things are now (don't mind needing adapter cables, but I am NOT rewiring the thing, even to provide extra power -- my soldering skills are simply too poor).
