hiya folks, ok so just a quick update: aross, i noticed the huuge number of social media and forums that you were on last week, really really appreciated. chris havel, thank you again for the artwork. after over 10 days, two key discussions are still ongoing which is great - trisquel and phoronix. the trisquel one's very supportive, the phoronix one is a very interesting free-for-all :) i'm beginning to get overloaded and it's affecting my health, so i am going to need to be a leetle more careful, i don't want communications to be adversely affected because i'm overloaded, so have put in motion some exercises / routines to deal with that (lots of relaxation). we've got a couple of articles coming up soon with major publications. more are needed. mostly, i just want to say thank you to everyone who's been helping out. l. --- crowd-funded eco-conscious hardware: https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68

hiya folks, ok so we're at 12% now which on a linear line basically still just puts us on target *just* within the campaign's time limit, and assuming the same numbers are pledged we'd be looking at 500 CPU Cards, 275 microdesktops and 140 laptops. which is not bad at all. we would juuust about be ok with that because some of the critical components (the PCMCIA socket for example) are shared between the microdesktop and laptop PCBs, and 500 computer cards is _great_, that would make a factory comfortable to do those kinds of quantities. ... that's assuming that it doesn't go nuts over the next few weeks and we hit 2500+ easily. i need to write this up as an update #3 oh btw are people following these? https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68/micro-desktop/updates l. --- crowd-funded eco-conscious hardware: https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68

Enlightenment DE?

I believe it works without 3d accel but the latest release is about using wayland so im not so sure what the direct its going nor about its current no 3d accel usage? played with it on my laptop, with the menu app window thingy it makes for a gnome-shell alike experience :). I think the desktop could even be replaced with a cool menu thingy... i forget... If ya can get it working, despite the other 1000s of other jobs ya got, it might make for a cool picture/video of a more modem, fancy DE running on it ;) if it was in the repo when/after they ship, me thinks its gonna be the first thing i install :D

Getting the word out

Greetings all, I have been trying to help get the word out about the crowdfunding campaign the past few days and I am thinking that the crowdfunding campaign should probably be brought to the attention of the following people/groups: * Linux Action Show (podcast) http://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/ The Linux Action Show guys, did have some quantity of discussion in the past (perhaps during their crowdfunding) and after release did finally do reviews of both the Purism Librem 13 and 15 laptops. I'm not 100% sure but, they seem idealistic enough that they might be willing to talk at some length on the project or perhaps even better, talk about the project and maybe even be willing to do an interview with Luke or Chris. Anyhow, their podcast is pretty solid and is done on pretty much a weekly basis from what I can tell. So check it out and if you think it's a good avenue to take, please contact them and see if they can help raise awareness of your project sooner, rather than later. * Linux Voice (magazine) https://www.linuxvoice.com/ I may be biased in saying that I think this is the best Linux magazine but, I'm going to go ahead and say it anyhow. This magazine got its start from a crowdfunding campaign itself (indiegogo). While it might be a large challenge to try and actually get a mention within their magazine (though that would have the best effect by far), they do also produce a blog and a monthly podcast (all of which would help raise visibility of the project). At this point, I'm thinking that honestly I'm not the best person to contact these groups and try to get things started but, I want to bring these ideas to the attention of the list. If there is somebody else out there who thinks that trying to contact these groups is a good idea then by all means, contact them and I hope they give this project some airtime. Sorry to keep sending suggestions during a very busy time! ;-) I noticed that one of the Trisquel list members made a suggestion about crowdfunding rewards: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/future-libre-computing-crowd-funding-campaig… starts-now#comment-99721 Although I intend to support this campaign because I actually want the products myself, there will be people who just want to support it in its own right. I had a conversation yesterday about this, in fact, after having seen another Crowd Supply campaign add some extra rewards: https://www.crowdsupply.com/knivd/ello-2m/updates/2233 (That's an interesting campaign all by itself, by the way.) Giving people the chance to say that they like the idea, to give more than $5 - yes I see that you can give multiples of $5 - and to maybe get more than a "thank you" but less than any of the main rewards, might broaden the base of supporters. Random merchandise might not be completely compatible with the ecological objectives of the campaign, at least if not done right. Then again, people do need to wear clothes, drink beverages out of containers, and so on. ;-) Paul

EOMA68 libre laptop and microdesktop, soon to launch

hi folks very busy here, also packing up as we're leaving holland, and been ill for several days *and* getting the portable 3d printer up and running - it's all happening. we're due to launch soon, and are applying for RYF Certification to cover the average end-user. spoke to josh gay about that, he confirmed that the FSF is in no way concerned about the average technical user (which all of us are here on arm-netbooks), it's when proprietary software is available and installed via an easy click-point interface with absolutely no warnings whatsoever. so we've worked out the procedures for applying for and then including a RYF-Certified product on the same launch page as the rest. it's very specific but we'll manage fine. nearly there, thank you to everyone for being so patient. EOMA68 is a long-term standard that has to be right first time it goes out. there's no possibility for correcting mistakes, as it would cause confusion. confusion automatically means failure so that can't happen. which is why i've had to bite the bullet, update the standard, and start again with the prototypes three times now, costing around $USD 10k each time. it is what it is. but i'm finally happy with the standard, the proof-of-concept, whilst in bits, works 100%, the modifications required are minor, so we launch. l. --- crowd-funded eco-conscious hardware: https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68
